Alan Scurr - Director |

I am a fully qualified teacher with over 20 years experience in the delivery of teaching and learning, within university, colleges, schools and industry. Over the past 7 years I have worked with adults working within schools helping them increase their understanding of the delivery of education, working in the main with primary school teachers and support workers. I have qualified teacher status, a MSc in Quality Assurance, various other teaching qualifications, NEBOSH, Internal Verifier and Assessor and currently working towards my Early Years Professional status (Graduate Level). Within the nursery my aim role is looking after finance, Health and Safety and Quality of provision.

Vicki Scurr - Manager
I am a fully qualified teacher having over 20 years experience of managing, and teaching within schools and colleges. Over the past 7 years I have worked closely with primary schools who have been placed in special measures and helped them improve their delivery and come back up to the correct standard expected by Ofsted. I have worked with teachers and support staff to increase their understanding of teaching and how children learn. I have Qualified Teacher Status, BA (Hons) Applied Social Science, Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Internal Verifier, Assessor and currently working towards my Early Years Professional Status (Graduate Level). My role within the nursery is managing the nursery and overseeing teaching and learning curriculum (early years foundation stage).
Donna Standlick - Deputy manager and Pre School Supervisor
I qualified in childcare in 2002 with the BTEC National Diploma in Early Years. I started working in a nursery in January 2009 when I did relief work at a nursery in Rawcliffe and then started at Walmgate Day Nursery in the Preschool room in May 2009. I have my first aid and food hygiene certificates. Will shortly be enrolling onto the Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification to help me with the delivery of early years to the new EYFS. Within the nursery I have responsibility of supporting a small team within the Pre-school room as well as acting as deputy in the absence of Vicki. In the near future I will be looking to train in Supporting Children with Specific Educational Needs, and putting this into practice within the pre-school room.
Tina Bruin - Toddler Room Supervisor
I am qualified at CACHE Diploma Level 3, and started working at Walmgate Day Nursery in March 2008. I hold various other certificates including first aid, and attend other courses for effective practise in my room. I have a team of two others and we plan many fun activities for your children to help them with their learning and development. We assess and monitor childrens development throughout the year through discussions with parents, observations during activities and general discussions with the children, we are currently looking at the 2 year checks with the introduction of the revised early years foundation stage. As well as supervising a small team I also have responsibility for supporting Alan with the Health and Safety.
Emma Routledge - Nursery Nurse Toddler Room
I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1998 with a BTEC Diploma in Nursery Nursing. I then worked in a private day nursery with a group of children aged 2-3 years in Whitby where I lived. In January 2000 I moved to York after being offered a job in a private nursery, where I was team leader in the pre-school room. I worked here for 2.5 years before I moved to Walmgate Day Nursery when it opened in July 2002. I hold a First Aid qualification and I am also the Behaviour Management Co-ordinator.
Emma Asquith - Nursery Nurse Pre-school
I came to Walmgate Day Nursery whilst on Placement from the local college in 2011. When Alan and Vicki took over as new owners I was offered a permanent position and thus started working for Walmgate Day Nursery as a Nursery Nurse in the Pre-school room and work along side Donna. I have enrolled onto my Level 2 Children and Young Peoples Workforce qualification this is the new nursery nurse certificate, once I have completed this I will be moving onto my Level 3. I enjoy working in the pre-school room and putting my learning into practice with the support from Donna.
Sarah Nicholson - Nursery Nurse Baby Room
After completing my CACHE Diploma in Nursery Nursing I worked in various settings including playgroups and day nurseries. For six years I worked in Jemimas Home to Home Nursery where I worked as a nursery nurse before progressing to room supervisor and the setting SENCO. I started work at Walmgate Day Nursery in April 2010 and I have completed my food hygeine and paediatric first aid courses and hope to continue with the Foundation Degree in Childcare Studies in October. At Walmgate I have responsibility as the SENCO and receive support from Vicki with this role.
Emma Sanderson - Nursery Nurse
I trained at York College and qualified in 2003 at a CACHE diploma Level 2. After college I went to work at Flaxton children’s nursery where I gained experience with all age groups of children. I also hold a First Aid qualification. I started working at Walmgate Day Nursery in March 2006.
Lauren Boyne - Baby Room Supervisor
I started work at Walmgate Day Nursery in June 2012 and enjoy working with the children. I have a level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, Level 2 Paediatric First Aid, Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace. Before coming to Walmgate I worked as a Childminders assistant and at Pollyannas Daycare centre helping with each age group, providing care and learning opportunities. At Walmgate as well as my responsibilities for supervising a team I have responsibility for resources within the nursery with the support of Vicki.
Delta Whatling
I came to Walmgate Day Nursery as a year 1 student in 2011 and when Alan and Vicki became the new owners was offered a position as a Apprentice working in the Toddler Room. I started working as an Apprentice in September 2012 (Children and Young Peoples Workforce Level 2) and work 4 days a week with the toddler team. I am fully supported by all within the nursery and enjoy my work.
Stacey Armitage - Baby Room Apprentice
I started work with Walmgate Day Nursery in September 2012 when I was offered a position as an apprentice within the baby room. I totally enjoy my work here and feel completely part of the team. I am studying for my Level 2 Children and Young Peoples workforce qualification and have recently passed my level 1 child care and Paediatric First Aid. I attend college 1 day a week and work 4 days at Walmgate.
